Following the fasts (vrat), they perform the pooja in the evening hours focusing on the moon. The story of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva is quite famous everywhere in the country. According to the story, goddess Parvati had kept the fast for Lord Shiva for their life-long union.
On this day, women get ready in all Indian traditional getup – from Indian ethnic wears to jewelries and makeup, their cultural sides are awake. The festival remains incomplete till the time women do not put mehendi on their hands and feet. A great celebration is organized for mehendi ceremony at some places where ladies sing, dance and enjoy swinging on the swing. The latter signifies the arrival of monsoon and thus, the Hariyali Teej.
