One of the famous Sufi mausoleums in India, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya houses tombs of princess consort Jehan Ara Begum and poet Amir Khusro.

With large following in Indian continent, Hazrat Nizamuddin was a successor of Ajmer’s Kwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Born on April 3rd, 1325, he was the fifth among the big five of Chirti order in India and honoured with many titles like Mehboob-e-llahi and Sultan-ul-Mashaikh. Many of the Delhi’s Sultan including Ala-ud-din Khilji and Muhammad Tughlaq were devotees of this great sufi saint.

Mirza Galib’s tomb, Kalan-Masjid, Chini Ka Burji, Jamaát-Khana Masjid, Ataga Khan’s tomb, Barapula, Khan-I-Khanan’s tomb, Lal-Mahal and Chaunsath Khamba are some of the notable structures inside the mausoleum. As you enter the complex, you will come across various “Phoolwala” stalls, the famous food shops and Urdu Book depots. The complex gets brighten up with Agarbattis and Diyas and a Mesmerizing fragrance cleans the air of surrounding negativity.

Every Thurday, Qawaali recitals are held after offering evening prayers. A patriarch of Nizami Khusaro Bandhu family, Meraj Ahmed uplifts you alluring experience of Qawwalis with his melodic voice. To derive a soulful experience, the crowd starts lining up for Qawwali session an hour before the scheduled time. One can explore a real essence of Sufi music here. During winters, the session takes place from 6 PM to 7:30 PM followed by Namaaz and then Qawwali again starts at 9 PM and goes till 10 PM. These pleasurable Holy Hours witness the tunes of popular songs like “Fakirs” and “Mast Kalandar” – all with High Energies and Non-Stop singing.

To commemorate the Death Anniversaries of Amir Khusaro and Hazrat Nizamuddin, a festival “Urs” is celebrated twice a year. To unleash a Soulful experience, from Believers to Non-Believers, each individual must pay a visit to this incredible place.
