Comic books are widely popular all over the globe and because of their popularity, comic con is one festival which more and more people are eagerly waiting for. The annual comic con international festival in San Diego is one of the most sorted after event which is eagerly awaited by thousands of individuals from all over the globe. It has become kind of a huge pop culture gathering in which people gather and have a lot of fun together.
The history of Comic con is very rich and ever since its inception from 1970 as Golden State, Comic Con this three day event has been very widely popular among the masses. In the first year it drew something about 300 people and every year since then there has been tremendous growth to the event.
In 1970, the Golden State Comic Con was started by a group from San Diegans which included the likes of Richard Alf, Mike Towry, Ken Kruger and Shel Dorf after initial few years the even was renamed as San Diego Comic Con. Name on its official website is Comic Con International: San Diego but commonly, the event is known as San Diego Comic Con or Comic Con. Considering the popularity of the event there was first ever Comic Con established in India for the local crowd.
For the first time Mumbai hosted the event back in the year 2009. It was a two-day event which was held on October 22nd and 23rd 2009. That was quite a small event and was named as Comic Con Express. It was referred as a travelling event which was further hosted by other cities. In 2009, there were about 60 participants and about 45 exhibits installed. There were many interactive sessions, events and contests organised over there to entertain the local crowd.
The first convection of Comic Con India was hosted by Delhi by local group Twenty Onwards Media and was held on 19th and 20th February in 2011. The 2-day event was a big hit in the city and saw as many as 15,000 crowd in attendance. There were many efforts taken to ensure that people enjoy the event which has several local as well as international stalls installed in it. Many well-known publishers like Kshiraj Telang, Amar Chitra Katha, Diamond Comics, Vimanika Comics were some of the top distributors who were present in the event.
There were many different interactive sessions, workshops, interviews from other writers and artists conducted during the 2-day session of Comic Con India which made it very helpful for the younger generation to understand what all efforts go behind making of a comic book.
Citing to the success of the event in Delhi and Mumbai, comic con convention as well as Comic con express have becomes a very trending event in the country. Almost every year the pop culture event is held somewhere in the country and is getting tall response nationwide.
