Thanks to the celebrities and social media, the world is becoming obsessed with having a fit body! But thanks again, because this increasing obsession has given birth to some unwanted myths about working out. If you have just started going to the gym, or even have been going for a while, then you must have encountered advices from several people. While most of the advices may be beneficial, many of them are just pure myths and you should know the actual facts behind them! Knowing these facts will not result in a toned body overnight, but will surely give you a vision for workout!

Myth – More Sweating Means More Calories Are Burned

Fact – This is the most common myth that we have believed all our lives. After a cardio session, if you are drenched in sweat, it doesn’t mean you have burned more calories at all! Sweating is just a way to remove the heat from the body.

Myth – Want Flat Stomach? Crunches Are The Key!

Fact – Crunches only make your abdomen area strong while not helping in getting rid of the fat. Muscles in the abdomen are present in everybody’s body and you need only need to remove the fat to highlight them. Crunches are not helpful at all!

Myth – Running Is Harmful For The Knees

Fact – It is only the injuries, which happen while running, are harmful for the knees, but not running! Ironically, it is the exact opposite. Running helps in building of the cartilage in the knees. So go running without any fear!

Myth – Increasing Weight After The Age Of 30 Is Normal As The Metabolism Of The Body Slows Down.

Fact – The decreased athletic activity and lower hormone levels are the reason behind slow metabolism. And this surely doesn’t convey that you can’t be fit after the age of 30. Exercising correctly helps in great amounts!

Myth – Yoga Helps In Losing Weight

Fact – Shocked? Even we were! Yoga doesn’t help you in losing weight but has various other benefits. It doesn’t make you burn the number of calories you would otherwise burn in a cardio session. It helps you increase your flexibility and with other internal problems. A form of Yoga known as ‘Hot Yoga’ is beneficial in losing weight.

Myth – Aerobics Improves Your Metabolism Even After Hours Of Workout

Fact – Without any doubt, aerobics helps you in improving metabolism, but the fact is that it lets you burn only 20 calories per day. And 20 calories per day hardly counts for fat loss.

Myth – Swimming Helps In Weight Loss

Fact – Swimming has many other benefits but not weight loss. It helps in better breathing and also in toning of the body. This is because the workout is not as vigorous as running as here the water supports the body. So if have been doing those extra lengths in the pool thinking you’ll lose weight, you are mistaken!
