Must Visit Gateway Of India When In Mumbai

Constructed in 1924, this Colossal Structure is counted among some of the unique landmarks in India. Whosoever arrive Mumbai for the first time is not able to skip this Monument of Historical Relevance. The grandeur of British Raj was represented by this monument during their empire in India.

It is located at the tip of Apollo Bunder, bordered by Arabian Sea and overlooks the Mumbai harbor. The first event that has been recorded in History as main event here was First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, which was conducted on February 28,1948. Under this Ceremony, the last set of British troops left in India left the country.

With the objective to commemorate the visit of Queen Mary and George V to Mumbai, this was built up in March 1911. It’s first foundation was laid down by the governor general Sir George Sydenham Clarke at that time. It took four years for the completion of its construction and the credit for its beautiful Architecture goes to George Wittet.

Built with indissoluble concrete and Yellow basalt, it is constituted with an arch of 26 meters height. With its central dome which is 48 meters in diameter, some traces of Muslim Architectural Style is Alos incorporated in it. While the best time to visit this monument is between November to March, as post monsoon climate is the best time with pleasant weather.

The Elephant caves are another place with vital importance and very close to it. You need to go via motor boats to travel islands.
