7 Best Places for Maacher Jhol in Kolkata

Source:Yummy Tummy

Kolkata is literally a melting pot of cultures. This quality is best accentuated in its rich culinary traditions, which has been culled through the ages and is inspired by several migrations and invasions. The Mughals for instance, introduced the love for decadent biryanis and thick curries among the populace. The ubiquitous “kathi roll”, which has become popular across the country was invented here by the Mohmedan community. The wave of Hakka Chinese immigrants who moved to the city during the Sino-Indian war, brought with them delicious recipes of authentic Hakka Chinese food. Their ingenuous recipes, combined with the local herbs and spices have become a distinguished brand today, popularly referred to as “Indian-Chinese” food. Here is a list of the Top Fish Curry restaurants in Kolkata.

The menu is really healthy and tasty. Kebabs are nicely cooked and soft, but the taste of the mutton kebab is really good. Lime soda was really good, chelo kebab is too heavy for one person, chicken kebabs, mutton again kebab with salad and roasted tomato with rice and butter cubes and a poach.

JW Kitchen certainly promises excitement when you walk through its doors. But like a mid-range buffet is bound to be, the quality was average and disappointingly so. The spread itself, I had heard raves about. However, I did not find anything out of the ordinary. Mildly impressive were the exotic veggies served in the salad counter. It was just about 8pm and I’m not sure if they ran out of starters but the only vegetarian ones I could find was paneer kebab and a chilly honey potato type of dish.

The restaurant is conveniently placed in a bustling locality in South Kolkata. It’s only a 10 minutes walking distance from Gariahat crossing. Designed to resemble a building from the golden olden era, 6 Ballygunge Place gives you a cosy homely feeling from the moment you step in. The outdoor is decorated with arc like glasses in top of the windows, which is a reminiscent of old Kolkata. The interior is well decorated with comfortable sofas and chairs.

The franchise at its very best. In a line this is how i should sum up. Their starters especially are worth mentioning here. Be it chicken, mutton, fish or prawns, Crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside. We also took the veg options and they were good too. Good as in change of taste. Their main course was also pretty long. Rezala was at its finest. Paneer dishes and kofta dishes were just out of the world. Desert section was a paradise fr all sweet tooths. Cakes, brownies, indian sweet, icecream, kulfis and what not. Staffs were very courteous and helpful. We sat there for too long, for almost 2 hours but no one bothered us. Ambience was lively and never felt the crunch in space around us. I wish i could eat more but my tummy was full already. I had a wonderful time there.

This molecular gastro-pub will leave you spell-bound with its wide variety of cocktails, liits and innovative dishes. The liit called Hammerjack will definitely grab your attention, the beer tempura fish, pork ribs cooked with rum are delicious. They have Jack Daniel’s Mousse which looks like a pretty mousse cake. I have visited this place only once and wish to revisit it again and again till I get to eat all the dishes they have in the menu. The presentation gets an A+. The service and price is also good. The ambience is nice with its calm and cozy atmosphere.

A visit to this place takes you back into the 70’s . A good casual place with its own air of sophistication. The food was delicious and expected carried the old school thought i.e concentrate on quality of food and not on cutting corners. All in all a lovely experience.

The ambience of the restaurant was pretty good and the dining space was quite homely. They are not overdoing things or trying to make it a posh restaurant, rather keep it as simple as possible. Prices are a little on the higher side and the location is a little odd for the people to visit as when we were there, it was totally empty. The kebabs were quite tasty along with the main course. Solely because of that reason this restaurant gets a thumbs up from me.

This deserves much more than 5/5!What an ambience with thumri playing in the background! Waiters wearing perfect kurta and food spread in nawabi style. It’s like being treated in a mughalgharana!Plunge in the galawati kebabs along with salaan and the biriyanis.Lastly the mouth freshener box is another attraction!
