To explore the richness of Indian History, Galib ki Haveli deserves a visit at the narrow lanes of Ballliraman, Chandani Chowk.
With the aim to retain the beauty of old world belonging to Galib’s Era, some selected works from his books, his hand-written Ghazals, last photograph of him and couple of other belongs are preserved within the palace along with the typical replica statue of him. To recreate the Era of Mughals, this Old Haveli is decked in chandeliers and colourful drapery.
Born in Agra, Galib lived in this Haveli for a long period of his life and wrote many “Diwans” in Persian and Urdu. In 1999, the government of India acquired a portion of Haveli and renovated it back to the Era of Mughal Splendour with Lakhori Bricks, wooden entrance gate and sandstone.
Two small rooms are present in the Haveli with the trace of this great poet. With notoriety on face, the sculpture of Ghalib looks directly at the audience wearing an archetypal Turkish hat in one of the room. His writings boast about a man who has been gifted with an ability to translate his highest cravings, darkest emotions and deepest thoughts on a piece of parchment. In other room, the walls are covered with painting of Ghalib smoking hookah and old parchment displaying distinctively written Urdu words.
In proximity to the Metro Station at Chawri Bazaar and Old Delhi Railway Station, the admission to the premises is free for everyone. You can also click photographs here. It is apparently difficult to take a taxi or car in the narrow lanes, hence a rickshaw it the most convenient option to reach the place.
