Stretched across an area of 176 acres, National Zoological Park in Delhi is a sprawling green land which homes 1350 animals approximately. With almost 130 species of animals and birds around the world, this 16th century citadel is an interesting place to visit for.
In the year 1952, The Indian Board of Wildlife came up with the idea of having a Zoo in the National Capital of the country. A committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Chief Commissioner in 1953 allocating site between Humayun’s Tomb and Purana Quila for the purpose. An official from IFS (Indian Forest Service) was appointed to manage the project. The project was developed by the Central government and handed over to state government on completion.
With a daily footfall of around 10,000 visitors, it has been an interesting picnic spot for the tourists. The plethora of Animals, Reptiles, Birds and Mammals belongs to countries like America, Africa and Australia makes this place more fascinating for its visitors. You will love to watch White-Tiger roaring in its territory, chirping of Birds over Rhino, Black-Bucks trying to hide themselves behind Trees, Squirrels hopping up and down from the tree, Crocodiles lazing around at shores and many more. One can not only enjoy these amazing moments but can capture these natural movements with photography.
The Zoo remain closed on every Friday and all the National holidays. Liqour, Tobacco and Private Vehicles are not allowed within the premises of Zoo. The place maintains a library and Cafeteria as well. To facilitate your strolling around the park, Mobile van is also available at you discretion. You need to buy a ticket to enter the park.
